Supporting BIPOC - Colorful Weddings

Many local wedding groups & wedding magazines/listing sites are geared towards American white weddings - not surprising in MN, but where do diverse couple go for inspirations and vendors that support their vision? Where do those of us that are catering to diverse weddings fit in? How does a primarily white wedding community support and promote BIPOC and cultural vendors that cater to ethnic weddings AND assist couples in planning a wedding that really celebrates their cultures and diverse backgrounds. I figured - we first need to support each other and find ways to connect!

One of my goals in starting Kahani Events and Design was to have a space specialized towards BIPOC, cultural, and multicultural vendors and clients. Thanks to a fantastic leadership opportunity given to me by CAAL last year, I started Colorful Weddings and a group of vendors started to meet monthly!

Really excited that my clients, vendors I work with or know, have all been very supportive in encouraging, and helping me make sure this happens. A special shoutout to Mariah Joy Photography, Twinkles Events, and Viva La Fiesta DJ - they have all been crucial in their inspiration, constant support, belief in this idea, and willingness to jump in and help out!

Our site includes:

Wedding vendors who

  • are BIPOC/LATINX/Minority business owners; and/or

  • offer culturally-specific or multicultural geared services.

our networking group also includes any representatives of the above vendors, and BIPOC who work in the wedding/event industry overall.

Our site and social media is geared towards supporting our vendors and supporting ANY couples ranging from those looking to support BIPOC-owned businesses to those looking for culturally-specific services for in the Twin Cities area.

Our most exciting development is that we are hosting a wedding fair on March 27, 2022. This will hopefully be a yearly occurrence!
